strength to strength

CHANGING DIRECTION?

As I begin a new blog every week, I find writing something valuable to the listener hard. I doubt myself, and I doubt my ability to write anything you want to read. Is my story enough to draw you in and make you want to listen? Am I telling the same story over and over?

I talk a lot about my strengths and how they contribute to my life, so I decided to change it up a bit.

So, this week, I applied for a job instead of writing more about my strengths.

Yes, a J-O-B!

It's hilarious because I started barber school when I was 17. Even in barber school, it never felt like a job, even though we took clients along with our classroom studies. It was terrifying at times, but sometimes you have to step out and do different things at different times of your life to get those dreams you dream.

Changing careers is HARD! Even if you're a career educator or worked as a high-level businessman/woman, you may have to change everything you do to make a living.

I went and sat down with a recruiter last month. He was fantastic, and after he got to know me, he told me I needed to keep coaching and building my customer base with my essential oils sales. But, he was also attuned to the fact that I needed to pay my bills while pursuing my dream.

He told me to apply everywhere I could, so I cast a wide net. I did just that!

Into the pool.......

I applied for an insurance job similar to many "MLMs." I found it funny when they were going through the compensation plan. I realized it was like the company I worked with for almost seven years. They were slightly offended when I mentioned how closely they were modeled.

It is all commission-based income with a regular paycheck; you get consistent monthly percentages for the policy's life as you signup policyholders. As you sign up agents under you, you get deeper commissions and pull of monies you get access to the longer you do it, and the more you build your clientele, the more you potentially make. It was just like my current company. The people that get these policies usually keep them throughout their lifetimes. I could go on with the similarities!

No repeats, today!

I did NOT take this opportunity for so many reasons. I realized I needed to do a better job with what I was doing with my current company. Making a move into a whole new industry didn't excite me. Even though I knew I could do it well, did I want to change directions now?

I don't know if changing directions is the best thing for me, but I understand myself a little better every time I interview. I can talk about myself with my strengths in mind. (Sorry! Not sorry! Strengths do play into all aspects of life.) In doing that, I can tell others who I am.

The struggle is real trying to find a job that pays well and has decent hours. No one can truly live on $13.50 an hour. Only a part-time job at this rate should even be considered! Some of us only need this type of job because we have financial need to fulfill.

Time > Dollars?

Most of us are okay trading our time for dollars. But over the years, I find myself needing more than that. I've always had a mindset of an entrepreneur, and that got in the way of just showing up and doing what a boss told me to do.

I wonder if others think the same way as I do? Are they tired of just showing up? Let me tell you, I have a side job I just show up for and do the work. That job serves its purpose. It is temporary and helps me get the bills paid on time. I am not where I want to be with my other endeavors just yet!

For now, that is where I'm at in this crazy journey I keep pursuing! I plan on telling the stories I find inside this new side job I just got. Yes, I did apply to some other places.

Next time I'll tell you more!!

By sharing my journey, I hope you realize I can help you clarify where you want to be?

I have questions to ask and wisdom to give!
